About Us
The Works Seattle is a hands-on creative studio offering instructor-led workshops, a drop-in Maker Bar, DIY kits, private and corporate events, and retail - all in one welcoming space. Since 2018, we've served more than 5,000 students a year across disciplines including printmaking, natural dyeing, stained glass, embroidery, and floral arranging.
We believe creativity is for everyone. Our classes and experiences are designed for people of all skill levels, including those who don't think of themselves as artists. Sliding scale pricing and a no-questions-asked scholarship program ensure that cost is never a barrier to participation.
Founded by West Seattle resident Kellie Phelan, The Works began as a one-woman pop-up and has grown into a beloved Seattle institution with a loyal community of makers, learners, and first-timers. Corporate clients including Amazon, Meta, and Microsoft bring The Works to their teams through private on-site events that trade screen time for hands-on creativity.
The Works Seattle is proud to be relocating to 4540 California Ave SW in the Alaska Junction neighborhood, bringing a bigger, better studio to the community we call home. Whether you drop in at the Maker Bar, sign up for a class, or book a private event, there's a place for you here.
